A Mystery Jigsaw Thriller with a Secret Puzzle Image

We loved the puzzle principally because of the very irregular pieces. Since the puzzle has no picture to guide, searching for odd shapes helped fill in some of the more challenging areas. Actually, at only 500 pieces, we were amazed ourselves because we managed to finish 3/4 's of it in about 4 hours. The story has some great descriptions and asides. On the other hand, the solution is flawed. I cannot say why without revealing the solution, but the primary clue simply does not work as the key to the solution (it is contrived (and not really workable for at least three reasons). We could make a much better case for another character given the story.
